It is no longer news that the city of Jos is synonymous to home grown talents, this capital of plateau state North Central Nigeria boasts many stars and celebrities both past and present, ranging from sport celebrities, movie stars, musicians and even politicians. In fact, the political and entertainment history of Nigeria would be incomplete without the mention of Jos. The city seems to possess the ambience to create and nurture raw talents.
Therefore it comes as no surprise that DMT Martinie has an affiliation with Jos. He was born on Feb 11th 1984 about 26 years ago in Jos to the Family of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Olukunle as Olukayode Matthew Olukunle. Martinie discovered his talent for music at the tender age of 7 while performing with his church choir. However his professional career didn’t start until 2003. Though he currently hails from Oyo state, he still regards Jos as his home, for he has lived most of his life in this tranquil city.
Dmt Martinie started his primary education at the Baptist private school in Jos. Upon graduation he moved to The Government college Zawan, now College of Mary Immaculate and then to the University of Jos where he obtained a Diploma in Business Administration.
Just as his name suggests, DMT (DeMultiTalented) Martinie, is a bundle of talents, he has proven to be a good singer, choreographer and rapper. He also plays keyboards and drums. Not only is he a great kit drummer, but most amazingly he is a Guru on the talking drum (a traditional Africa drum from western Nigeria). It is very rare to see one person with such a collection of gifts as DMT Martinie..
“Kay “as he is fondly called amongst close friends, draws his inspiration from personal experiences, events and people around him. Though his challenges were great and enormous he chose to keep them personal.
However things turned around for him at the turn of the year 2009, when he was reunited with an old friend , Pearce Bolaji the young C.E.O of Halcyon Inc. A relatively young record label in search of fresh and great talents to sign. Pearce was so convinced by Martini’s talents that he decided to sign him to his Label. So, by January of the same year they were both signing the dotted lines of contract papers.
One of DMT’s greatest influences and mentors is, Joe “D drumma boy”, who is his equally multitalented producer.
He has also been inspired by a number of other Nigerian artists who have made their mark in the entertainment world; amongst whom are Banky W, Asa, Cobhams, Dare Art’Alade and MI. Also when he talks about the duo of Peter and Paul Okoye (P .Square) you will feel the respect and Love he has for them.
He believes that one day his voice and talents will bring a significant change to the world. Just like great people of today and yester-years.
Martinie with his reverence for God and humility is surely on the path to greatness. With the Drumma Boy cooking his beats and Halcyon Inc fully behind him, DMT is ready to realize the sky is not his limit, but his starting Point.
