Cambridge-based ethereal alt. rock trio Chasing Melfina were formed in 2009 by former This Is Not A Dead Transmission/Femur sideman Aidy James Stevens (vocals, guitar) and his long-time 'would be' collaborator, Oli Kelly (bass). They have no recollection of how they met. After a revolving-door slew of drummers, the band settled on sticksman Will Key.
Their songs are chronicles of disaffection and disillusionment written from the viewpoint of a witty and, at times, neurotic spectator put to a soundtrack of fuzzed-out, reverb-drenched guitars, gritty, swaggering basslines and 'Nevermind'-on-speed drum-pounding. You'd be hard-pressed to believe that there are but 3 men making this much noise.
Following 2009's 'We Are The Fiends' and a relentless gig schedule, in 2010 the band recorded their sophomore EP 'A Toast To The Feeling Of Letting Go' with producer/engineer Mark Elmore (Johnny Foreigner, Baddies). Their latest effort exhibits a massive step forward in every respect - tighter, louder, more expansive and more ambitious. With a big 2011 planned, Chasing Melfina may well catch what they've been running after.
